Private golf academy’s project at the farm called Čapí hnízdo (Stork‘s Nest) of the establisher Agrofert Holding was the last part of the sporting facilities of the multifunctional site located in Olbramovice’s vicinity. The investor’s brief read: “design and build a complex training facilities including a large putting and chipping greens in a way that you would, personally, appreciate.” There is no need to contemplate such offer for a long time. There were about 7 hectares of land situated below the dam of an artificial pond called Slavnik with the area of 10 hectares to our disposal. The advantage of this location is a direct sun light for the entire day; the disadvantage is an ever-present soil soak and high level of the subterranean water. Unfortunately, it was not possible to use the fresh water as the source of irrigation as the pond is a classic example of a “rain-water dependent” one (i.e. without its own source of fresh water).
To drain the permanently soaked bedrock, a system of ample drainage ditches with pipes was designed. The distance between its individual branches is 4 metres; a total of 1 kilometer of pipes has been used. All drainage pipes point to one central reservoir from where the collected water is pumped to an embedded concrete tank with the capacity of 50 m³ and used for irrigation. The tank is also filled from two independent wells and roof of the finished club house.

As the entire location is privately owned and its opening to the public is not subject to any strict deadline, the design and placement of the individual game elements was approached in a generous way to enable practicing of all types of shots and swings – i.e. in the way that should be the common standard. The Academy thus encompasses a sectioned putting green with the area of almost 1000 m², a chipping green with 610 m² in size, several green bunkers and an approach bunker from which it is possible to play even a 50 m long shot to the green. A large fairway bunker forms an integral part of the driving range. The driving range posts are located on three different levels – terraces – out of which the middle one also features eight covered posts with mats. The overall area of the grass covered posts is over 1000 m²; the posts are rectangular – 10 metres in width and, at a minimum, 20 metres in length.
It is possible to use the area of 1 hectare of fairways for practising short play to chipping greens. To achieve the shaping that enables practising shots from several directions, almost 10 000 m³ of soil had to be relocated throughout the course of the construction. We have managed to reshape the originally dull, virtually flat, character of the place to that of a pleasant to look at, naturally floating landscape. The location is internally drained by the system of catch basins interconnected by fixed drainage pipelines. The catch basins also serve as the security back up of the drainage system permanently lowering the level of the subterranean water.

Bases for all greens and tee-off posts were designed and built in accordance with the USGA norm; the substrates were supplied by the company AGRO CS. When selecting the grass mixes and seeds, we used the services of the company Oseva Uni and its expert Ing. Ivo Našinec. Several specialised companies participated on the construction itself and all performed highly professional and quality work. The construction was managed and coordinated by Jakub Červenka from Czech Golf Development. Terrain work, shaping, pre-seeding preparations, building the bases for all golf elements, greens, tee-off posts and bunkers, seeding of all green areas and the drainage system for the surface drain were performed and supplied by the company Milan Ištok - Golf Service. The irrigation system Rain Bird was installed by the company Raining Service s.r.o.. The aforementioned drainage system as well as all technical facilities of the buildings were supplied and installed by the company Dráb s.r.o.. All pathways were built by the company VB 40 and the stylish, yet functional, covered driving range posts were supplied by Vesna Interiers.
Design work of the golf part was done by Jakub Červenka, Czech Golf Development s.r.o., the technical facilities of the buildings were designed by the designing agency Růžička a partneři; the wooden covered driving range posts were designed by the architectonic agency SGL projekty that also assumed the role of the general architect of the entire compound of the farm.
