This is another Master golf course where Czech Golf Development was invited to provide its expertise and help create an extraordinary golf project. The course is located in the immediate vicinity of the Czech Republic’s capital, Prague, with an area size of more than 80 hectares (198 acres). The investor of the project became UNIMEX GROUP a. s., a member of an important local investment group.

The surrounding landscape with beautiful views of the Czech Paradise hillsides and its forests stretched on the gentle slopes of this mountain range forms picturesque scenery around the course. Hardly any flaws can be pinpointed here. The concept of a Master course is apparent from each detail of the project: at least five sets of teeing areas for each hole, the overall area of almost 12000 square metres (nearly 3 acres) of greens, a number of water hazards and carefully picked grass strains for various parts of the course to let the final colour contrasts complete its unique design.

A specialised golf construction company Pittel & Brausewetter known namely for its project Fontana GC by Vienna was awarded the position of the major supplier of this project. This renowned Austrian company performed its work under our professional supervision. The cooperation was perhaps difficult and challenging, but always utmost proper and with the highest level of expertise. The result is an exceptionally well built course from the professional point of view. During the construction, Czech Golf Development implemented one major change in the golf course layout. The architect of the course, Mr. Keith Preston, originally designed the third hole as a short PAR 4 left dogleg and located the fourth hole PAR 3 in an adjacent narrow valley. Location of the third green in a sloping terrain would, however, represent a great risk and cause construction issues. Securing the hillside against erosion would significantly increase the costs of the construction as concrete block piles would be required. Therefore, we suggested swapping the concept of these two holes around and making the third hole a long PAR 3 and the following fourth hole a shorter, but strategically very ambitious PAR 4. This change was accepted by the investor and we were asked to take an active part in design and consecutive construction of these holes working closely with the representatives of the investor and the supplier. Czech Golf Development thus managed the construction of both greens, designed location and shaping of bunkers and the final shaping of the fourth fairway and performed the construction.

Construction of large water hazards, an artificial stream and a system of pumps for moving water between individual water reservoirs were also important elements of the project. About 1000 fully grown trees were planted around the golf course. Shortly, these trees will reach the height that will separate the course from the open surrounding hillsides and provide an enclosed area for the players at each of the holes. Part of this resort is also an exceptional training facility and a very luxurious and convenient club house.

Czech Golf Development was hired to perform construction and technical supervision on behalf of the investor. Above the scope of this role, it actively participated in design and construction adjustments of the course throughout the construction stage. Czech Golf Development highly values this successful cooperation and considers this project one of the most prestigious of its portfolio of golf courses it worked on. We are very pleased that the Albatross Golf Club has been ranked second in the competition Golf resort of the year 2010.
