Golf Course as an Integral Part of Landscape

A golf course is part of the landscape and should be perceived as such. One of the major issues people have with modern golf courses is that they have become, owing to their character, much different from their surroundings. We strongly believe that symbiosis between a golf course as a landscape element and at the same time an attractive sport facility can be reached. Placing greater emphasis on individual golf details, rather than performing massive and often unnecessary shifting of natural resources followed by artificial shaping, is the key. In this regard, we pay maximum attention to the shape of bunkers, shaping of greens and creation of water reservoirs. When designing and planning a golf course, we always build on the options provided by the terrain characteristics and search for details that could (and will) become integral parts of the final layout of the course. We are convinced that building a quality, interesting and attractive golf course from the sport perspective does not require moving around excessive amounts of soil or creation of unnatural artificial shapes that become intrusive to the surrounding landscape. We always try, when designing a golf course, to find a solution that would not require massive interference with the existing landscape, but quite on the contrary, use at best its dominant elements that we implement in the golf course layout. In cases where it is necessary to move greater amounts of material around, we always try to find a final layout of the course that would fit in with the surrounding landscape.

Design and Planning Services

Czech Golf Development provides complex design and planning services throughout all preparatory stages of a golf project implementation to clients that require professional experience. If awarded the job of designing and planning a new golf course, we divide our services into the following stages:

1) Initial Analysis of the Area

First step is always a detailed review of the expected location of the construction site in order to verify that it suites the purpose. As part of this initial analysis, topography of the area is performed, the soil samples tested, limiting factors in regards to ecological and environmental restrictions reviewed and the overall engineering availability and access to the source of water for irrigation and its quality are evaluated.

2) Routing Plan

At this stage of planning, we analyse different scenarios of distribution of holes throughout a given location in order to arrive at the optimal solution. Implementation of all limiting factors of the area and attractiveness of the final layout of the golf course are observed.

3) Master Golf Course Plan

After a golf course has been fitted amidst its surrounding landscape, we may present the way golf will be played at this area to our client. As soon as the distribution of holes within the given area is approved by the client, negotiations with relevant state offices may begin in order to secure all required construction permits.

4) Implementing Documentation

Upon approval of the preceding stage, we start working on a detailed implementing documentation. This package includes the following plans:
  • Final Master Plan (The overall situation)
  • Grading Plan (Rough terrain adjustments)
  • Feature Shaping Plan (Fine terrain adjustments)
  • Drainage Plan
  • Irrigation Plan
  • Greens Detail
  • Construction Details of Golf Elements
  • Surveying Plan
  • Grassing and Seeding Plan
  • Technical Specifications of the Construction
  • Bill of Quantities

5) Author’s Supervision

Throughout the construction period, we inspect the site and supervise the performed work on a regular basis to assure that the golf course we designed is the exact one delivered to our client.
